Winter Palace of the Bogd Khan museum
The Green Palace named Sharawpeljeelin Monastery, one of the four color royal residences of the 8th Bogd Khaan, is the only royal palace that has survived as a complex in Mongolia. Palace of the 8th Bogd Javzandamba, the last emperor of Mongolia. In 1893-1903, Sharavpeljeelin seven summer prayer mosque and in 1903-1905 two-story Russian-style winter palace were built. In 1926, the Central Committee of the People’s Party and the Government established the State Museum Facilitation Bureau, and according to the order, dated April 1, 1926, the historical and cultural properties, Buddhist worship deities and iconic statues, ethnographic artifacts owned by the Bogd Khaan, and the taxidermy collection of stuffed animals were transferred to the museum. As a result, the first modern national museum of Mongolia was founded at the Winter Palace of Bogd Khaan. In 1954, by Resolution 464/46 of the Ministers’ Council and the Central Committee of the People’s Party, the Central Museum of Mongolia was established and the Bogd Khaan Palace Museum was made a branch of the State Central Museum. In 1961, Bogd Khaan’s palace was re-established as an independent museum.
zaisan hill complex (ulaanbaatar)
This tall landmark in front of the city offers the best views of Ulaanbaatar and the surrounding nature. The large monuments on the top of the hill were erected for the memory of soldiers died in World War II.
Zaisan Hill is a perfect blend of modern architecture and tradition and history. Until recently, it was most well-known for the Zaisan Hill Monument atop the hill, a beautiful circular structure with a mural honoring allied Mongol and Soviet soldiers who fell during World War II. Now the hill is also home to a sprawling modern complex with plenty of amenities for tourists and residents alike.
Equestrian statue of Genghis Khan
Located 54 kilometers away from Ulaanbaatar city, The Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue (Tsonjin Boldog Complex) is considered the world’s largest equestrian statue and the largest horse-riding statue in the world. It was built here, so the legend goes because this was the spot where Chinggis Khaan found a golden whip. The complex includes an impressive museum (with Hunnu artefacts and items from the Mongol empire), a cafe, and a souvenir shop.
Being a part of the Genghis Khan Statue Complex, 40 meters (130 ft) tall equestrian statue of Genghis Khan on horseback, was established in 2008 and made of 250 tonnes of stainless steel. The base consists of 36 supporting columns, representing 36 great Khans (Mongol kings) with the entrance gate to the complex being decorated with statues of the nine generals (noyons) of Genghis Khan. Be sure to go to the head of the horse through its chest and neck for a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape from the observation deck.
